Comic Review : Transformers Prime Beast Hunters

My first (and probably my last) comic review...

Frankly, Beast Hunters is not even my favorite series...anyhow, I'll do a quick browse and a brief of the action page by page :

Transformers Collector's Club (TFCC) Scourge

A redeco of the Reveal the Shield (RTS) Optimus Prime, Scourge aka Black Convoy was part of the Transformers Collector's Club (TFCC) membership subscription back in 2012.

I'm not going to review much as this is a direct redeco with a mold sculpt similar to RTS Optimus Prime (reviewed twice of the same mold earlier...).

Firstly, the box the figure came in with : plain brown with 3 stickers indicating 'scourge' on each flap...

You'll find that this figure is mostly in black and translucent red with the black covering the front, wheels and side tanks. Translucent red on the headlights and windows, pretty consistent with the color scheme of the original Scourge.

Front grill, outlines of the windscreen, smokestacks and hubcap are in silver. There is also a silver, upside down G2 Autobot symbol (used to represent the Decepticons in the 'Robots in Disguise' series) painted on both doors.

There are also thin bluish-greenish / teal lines on top of the hood, over the side windows, front and rear wheel covers as well, a key detail on many previously released Scourge.

Overall, you'll be able to recognize this figure as yet another Scourge-styled character instantly.

Side-by-side comparison with both RTS Optimus Prime and Combat Hero Optimus Prime (another classic example of Hasbro milking the same mold...) :

Robot mode :

Again, you'll find teal colors on the head, shoulders, chest, waist, arms and legs. Silver on shoulders, chest, waist and thighs, balanced up with black on the rest of the body with translucent red on the chest, back of the head and eyes.

Sword is translucent red, pretty similar with Combat Hero Prime's. Handle fits nicely into Scourge's hand, again with all previous mold, you need a bit of a push.

Don't want to hold the sword? No worries, just tuck it away...

In short, an excellent piece, worth every penny paid to be shipped over from the other side of the continent...lol...If you're a completist of this mold or of anything black (and classy), you gotta have it. The quest is yet to be completed, 2 more left to go (Botcons some more...). Till all are one...

Transformers Now-and-Then Figures Set

In contrary to what had been advertised by Toys "R" Us, this set is NOT free...how can it be free if you have to purchase something first in order to have it? Hmm...maybe we are not using the same definition of the word...

Anyhow, a glance at the Set, given 'free' with a minimum purchase of RM250 worth of the new Transformers : Age of Extinction (AOE) toy range :

Taadahh...basically, the Set consists of 2 mini Optimus Prime figures - one depicting the "Now" - new AOE Optimus Prime mold (the figure on the right) and the "Then" - G1 mold (figure on the left).

If you are expecting some cheap plastic-ky material figures, you will be surprised...they are relatively heavy for their size...I reckon made from brass or iron or whatsover...good for paper weight or as chess set replacement pieces...haha...

I understand there are 600 sets up for grabs...so, head on to the nearest Toys "R" Us, while stocks last....

Toy Review : Combat Hero Optimus Prime

Basically, a redeco from the earlier release Reveal The Shield (RTS) Optimus Prime which in turn was a remold of G2 Laser Optimus Prime...

Prime is part of the Transformers Generations Ultimate Gift Set which also includes Autobot Jazz, Motorbreath and Thundercracker. Jazz was missing when I purchased this set but my ultimate aim was Prime, hence other figures were irrelevant...

Before I proceed to the review proper, a glance at the Gift Set...

This is mine...can you spot the difference?

Yesss....I'm free!!

This Prime is a confused piece...he can't decide whether he is G1 or G2. G1 autobot insignia on the windscreen but G2 on the doors...so what the heck, be both...a hybrid, if I must say.

A rather red and blue figure, pretty similar with the standard Optimus Prime colors (though, more blue than red) as compared to the earlier RTS figure with some orange inside his red shoulders and silver on his head.

Prime's sword is now clear red. RTS version was orange, United was blue...

Now for some sword-wielding moments...haiyah...

Some kungfu-fighting styles...too much influence from Ip Man and Wong Fei Hung...

"While we wait for the others, pose..."

For a new piece, the joints are relatively loose. Either the seller had played it extensively, then carefully placed it back in box as new or Hasbro's QC has really gone down the drain (yet again). Anyhow, this mold's a keeper for me...now on my quest to locate the rest for a complete set. Let's see...there's the TFCC Scourge / Nemesis Prime, Botcon Ultra Magnus, Shattered Glass Optimus Prime..err...I believe that's it right?
